School 2.0
I found the School 2.0 website and map very exciting. I feel that collaboration is key to making this work and that is something that I feel as a middle school we are struggling with now. Parents don't have the time to come in to the school but they could be an integral part of the on-line educational experience. Of course I wonder how this is financially possible. I know that many students have computers at home, but our resources at school are not sufficient. I loved on the map how they talked about shifting textbook dollars for digital media. I wonder if this can be easily done. I serve on the budget committee and it always seems to me that we are very limited as to how we can spend certain funds like textbooks. Is the federal government going to be able to financially support school that are following the 2.0 vision?

We said and great question. I also sit on the budget committeee in my building and it's frusterating when you have money to spend but are told how to spend it (I do understant the reasoning behind it, just don't always agree with it). Wouldn't it be great if all text book and teacher books could be accessable through the comuter. Then you'd be able to print/use only what you need, even better ~ if every teacher had a SmartBoard to project lessons and do their instructions on and every child had a laptop (or regular computer).... it would be great!

My big concern is the kids that don't have access to a computer at home. It's sometimes a problem now at the high school when teachers require certain things to be done on the computer. Is that something that the federal government will finance? And what about Internet access? I just don't think we have the finances or the resources to do some of this.
